Utilities and local communities can develop solar resources using Community Solar models. National Solar can help to design the internal controls and external generation resources to build and operate Community Solar programs.

The US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) released a study that suggested that only about 1/3 of all rooftops were suitable for solar installation but that by combining the energy needs of communities or ratepayers, Community Solar projects could be built to provide green power to the grid without negatively impacting non-subscribing ratepayers.
